SOUNZ is a nonprofit organisation who champion the music of Aotearoa New Zealand.
In 2017 Rabid redesigned and redeveloped the music library and search engine for the SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music website, the core of which is a vast collection of music composed by NZ artists. We wanted to make a simple, easy-to-use and engaging website that would draw audiences into all of the amazing music on offer. This was a major enhancement of their online catalogue and an integration with Digital NZ.
The new website was designed to be in line with the new SOUNZ branding, and also incorporated more te reo Māori into their website.
SOUNZ has a large database of music that includes different resource types. We rebuilt the repository and simplified their data model so that information could be searched for by by collection, artist, type of music, year of creation etc. Search can then be further refined and results include images, scores, performance history, tracks to listen to, buy or borrow, and other resources. The website also surfaces related works, so that people can discover new music that they may not have known to search for but might be of interest given their other searches.
SOUNZ was rebuilt as a fully responsive website. Surveys conducted before and after the update show that users find the new website easier to use and to quickly find information they are looking for. Sales also went up in the first half of 2018 and SOUNZ are planning to add more improvements to the site before the end of the year.
