Whether it’s a hui, conference or meetup we back all sorts of community events.
Who we support
There are lots of meetups, programmes and organisations who do great work in line with Ackama values. Here are some of the ones we support:
Ackama supports Wāhine in Tech Wellington and Women in Tech Auckland by providing sponsorship for kai and inu at events. The Wellington group was started by Ackama’s Haunani Pao and two of the co-organisers are Cara Hill and Kim Partridge.
Ackama also sponsors User Experience Auckland (UXA) and Haunani Pao is one of the founders and co-organisers.
Ackama is a monthly sponsor of Ruby Together, a sponsor for the 2017 Wellington RailsCamp and a silver sponsor and participants in 2017’s Rails Girls Wellington and 2018’s RailsBridge Wellington.
Ackama are a member of NZRise - a group of business leaders who are passionate about New Zealand technology and believe our IT industry can be a hotbed of innovation and growth. Our CEO, Breccan McLeod-Lundy, is also on the board.
Ackama was a bronze sponsor for the 2017 nz.js(con) conference. Ackama also provided the 2017 Kiwi Ruby Diversity Scholarship for people who would otherwise not be able to afford to make it to the Kiwi Ruby conference, but would benefit from attending.
Ackama are a bronze sponsor for the 2018 New Zealand Open Source Awards (NZOSA), which recognises and celebrates the outstanding work done with free and open source software and the artistic, scientific and social outcomes it delivers in New Zealand.
Ackama’s Wellington office is the location for Managers Anonymous, a professional development group co-facilitated by our Head of People and Culture, Amy Shand.
In 2018 we sponsored three people to attend InsideOUT’s Shift Hui at Horouta Marae. InsideOUT works to make Aotearoa a safer place for young people of minority genders and sexuality.
